Dissemination

"The difference is spreading"

-Gertrude Stein

The power used to be in the hands of the book companies who had the power of dissemination. Now, dissemination has become navigation and that power relationship has changed.

Derrida's Dissemination has a chapter called "Plato's Pharmacy" in which he compares language to a drug that changes you as you process it. The Phaedrus, the story with which Derrida illustrates his point, is also the story of seduction -- the way language is used to divert someone from their path, but this diversion also intoxicates us -- in that it gets to difference, extension of self, imagined otherness....whatever.
