Storage

Pandora.com

How does the concept of storage differ from the concept of collecting? Of assembling? Is it a question of intention? The concept of storage presumes a future need or use. You store resources, things that will be consumed.

Think also of the concept of storage in terms of media. Data storage--not yet very reliable...as per my own recent experiences.

A book is a mode of storage--a prehistoric hard drive. Storing information to be used later, assuming a need, precluding a forgetting...how very Romantic...it all goes back to memory...historical materialism...transcendental materialism...the medium is the message...prostheses fallen dormant, defunct...in terms of new media, it's a matter of life and death. Before, books suffered a slow death at the jaws of roaches and fungi...now, information is destroyed completely and instantaneously. There is no such thing as a virtual ruin.
