Pablo Picasso' "Guitar" and "Quotation" in The Arcades Project Project
"Pablo Picasso. (Spanish, 1881-1973). Guitar. (after March 31, 1913). Pasted paper, charcoal, ink, and chalk on blue paper, mounted on ragboard, 26 1/8 x 19 1/2" (66.4 x 49.6 cm). Nelson A. Rockefeller Bequest. © 2006 Estate of Pablo Picasso / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York" (http://moma.org).
This work of art was selected for the background wallpaper for the page of The Arcades Project Project entitled "Quotation" because its incorporation of text with decontextualized snippets of patterns and textures superimposed over a surface that greatly resembles a schematic of some sort mirrors in many ways the compositional process of this project, at least in so far as it appropriates external textures, patterns, and fragments of text while maintaining a plotted and carefully constructed compositional framework.
